That got me thinking about my favorite Spring Break of all time, and how much I wish I could do it again!
I also really really want to participate in Helene's Travel Tuesdays link-up, so I figured it was the perfect time. :)
My all time favorite Spring Break was when I was studying abroad in Australia, and we went to Cairns, Queensland to spend the week on a boat out on the Great Barrier Reef!
We lived, tanned, relaxed and snorkeled off the boat, and besides a minor bout of sea sickness on the way out there, the week was perfect!
There was a big group of us from my abroad program, but there were also other people on the boat from different schools in the US, and other countries. Every day we went out on the deck and met new people and heard awesome stories. My favorite part of exploring a new place is all the interesting people you meet!
As much as I want that tan back, the sexiest thing I had was the awesome wet suit tan. There's nothing like having tan feet, ankles, hands and wrists and the rest of you be a significantly lighter shade! We had to wear the wet suits out snorkeling because of all the jelly fish. Don't worry, I still managed to swim directly into one and take it straight to the face.
And no, I did not let anyone pee on it. I did, however, get sprayed with vinegar, and I could not stop smelling it for days! Super sexy.
Anywho.
After we got off the boat we spent the weekend at Gilligan's Backpackers Hotel and Resort, which is just a very fancy way of saying crazy party hostel. I know The Flying Pig is supposed to be the number 1 party hostel in the world, but I've got to say. Gilligan's was way crazier. Probably because it was Spring Break. And our friend's 21st!
I know my entire semester abroad seemed like one constant Spring Break, but this week was extra special!
Anyone else wishing they were somewhere tropical laying out instead of going to work this week?

This looks like it was fun!

That would be so fun! If a jellyfish ever came anywhere near my face, I think I would be scarred for life!

1. Jealous
ReplyDelete2. Did your face hurt when you swam into a jelly!?
3. I would trade my big toes to be in a tropical habitat right now
This sounds like so much fun! I'm jealous! :)
ReplyDeleteRobin, as much as it pains me to tell you this, but you still are young, wild, and free...from my vantage point anyway.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your time in Australia, despite those pesky jelly fish! Just stumbled across your blog and off to have a better look around! :)

When I was in Australia, about a million years ago, I puked on the boat ride out to Great Barrier Reef. It's not one of my finest moments.
